To augment doctors’ productivity and give them more time to care for patients, technology must align with clinical workflow – not the other way around. As technological capacity has skyrocketed, its ability to improve care and provider experience continues to be hindered by the overwhelming “noise” of pop-ups, prompts, beeps, and other tasks requiring providers to pay more attention to their EMRs and devices than the patient.

Automation, voice recognition, and smart processes are cutting down on the demands of physicians so they can focus more on patient care. Natural language API’s extracting pertinent information from EMRs, while speech recognition software taking on the laborious task of updating medical records allows physicians to get the patient stories right the first time. 

“Smart tech,” strong communication, teamwork and leadership support can increase physician capacity and reduce burnout risk.
